Stack & Store Self Storage Opens 10th Reading Room

Havre de Grace, MD – The Carson Scholars Fund and Stack & Store Self Storage is pleased to announce the opening of the Ben Carson Reading Room at Roye-Williams Elementary School. The school will hosted their opening day ceremony and ribbon cutting on Wednesday, May 28th. Roye-Willams Elementary School is located at 201 Oakington Road in Havre de Grace. This is the tenth Ben Carson Reading Room in Harford County to be sponsored by Stack & Store Self Storage.

The Ben Carson Reading Project, founded by retired world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon and New York Times bestselling authors Dr. Ben Carson and his wife, Candy, is an initiative of the Carson Scholars Fund.  The purpose of the Ben Carson Reading Project is to create a literacy-enriched environment for children to become proficient and enthusiastic readers. “The world of reading was first introduced to me by my mother. In my early childhood, books rarely caught my attention, and I wasn’t the best student,” explained Dr. Ben Carson. “However, that changed when my mother required my brother and me to read two books a week from the Detroit Public Library and submit written reports.  I was hesitant at first, but I soon found the freedom that comes with diving into a good book. Much of my success can be attributed to this pivotal time in my life. That’s why my wife, Candy, and I have dedicated ourselves to creating spaces where children can be transformed by the enrichment of reading.”

“The Carson Scholars Fund has a long and storied history with Stack & Store Self Storage dating back to 2000 when Stack & Store sponsored their first Carson Scholars reading room at Hall’s Cross Roads Elementary School in Harford County,” said Candy Carson. “Roye-Williams Elementary School is honored to be the recipient of a Ben Carson Reading Room,” added Rose Martino, school principal. “Thanks to the generous support of Stack and Store, we were able to bring our ‘Enchanted Forest’ theme to life—creating a magical, calming space where students can nurture their love of reading. Our staff is excited to provide a welcoming environment filled with high-interest books that spark curiosity and imagination. We believe this room will inspire students to explore new worlds through reading and build lifelong literacy skills. We are truly grateful to be part of the Ben Carson Reading Project and to offer this enriching opportunity to our school community.”

To date, 302 reading rooms have been established serving students in 24 states and Washington, DC. To learn more about the Carson Scholars Fund, visit www.carsonscholars.org.
